Principal’s Message

I had the opportunity to sub in a classroom this afternoon. My experience, as always, reinforced my feelings about all of our Grace McWayne students. They are awesome. We have the kindest, most generous, thoughtful students at GMS. Everyday I hear “Good morning…How are you? Can I help?” and “Have a great day!” Students are caring for and helping other students all the time and they certainly help me when I have the opportunity to sub in a classroom. I figure it doesn’t hurt to brag about our GMS students every so often. They are the best!

This is the time of year when I remind parents to send me an email if they would like to share more about their child as a learner. This is not necessary by any means, but there are unique situations when it is important for me to hear from you about your child’s social-emotional or academic needs. Although I cannot accommodate direct requests for teachers, I can utilize your input to best match your child with their classroom teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. I ask that all emails be sent to me by May 1st.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week will be held May 3-7. Although the week may look a little different this year, we are still able to show our thanks and appreciation for our amazing staff at GMS! The PTO will provide special treats to the staff throughout the week, but the students are encouraged to participate in the following activities so that they can celebrate their teachers and the staff:

Monday, May 3:

– We are asking students to “flood their teachers’ inboxes” with emails about a special memory from the year.

Tuesday, May 4:

– Students may bring flowers to teachers and staff members.

Wednesday, May 5:

– Students bring handwritten notes, cards, or pictures to their teachers and favorite staff members expressing their appreciation.

Thursday, May 6:

– Students are encouraged to Dress Like a Teacher!

Friday, May 7:

– Students wear their teacher’s favorite color (which will be communicated soon).

Building our Future Together

Your feedback is needed to help direct the future of our school facilities in Batavia. The district has been engaging in a master facilities planning process for two years, and before final recommendations are made to the board, your feedback is needed. Go to www.bps101.net/boft to review the details and take a survey.

The Building Our Future Together Core Team will meet to discuss questions and comments from the community at 6:00 PM on Monday, April 26. The public is welcome to watch this virtual meeting live and submit questions to the Core Team. Advanced registration is required.
