Grizzly eNews 8-20-2021

Principal’s Message

It was so fun welcoming back all of our students on Wednesday.  Students have been doing a great job so far as they learn about expectations, responsibilities and new opportunities as GMS Grizzlies.  Next week, students will learn about our revised positive behavior system that includes Golden CLAWS and Golden Grizzlies.  Students will also be learning more about how and why they all “belong here.”

Finally, please note that we are all working together to improve our systems here at GMS.  We know that buses have been late and we have had other end-of-day blunders, but we are learning from each situation and hope to have a smoother arrival and dismissal next week.  Thank you for your patience and your continued trust as we make adjustments in the name of safety for all children.

Enjoy your weekend!

PTO News:

Welcome Celebration and Coffee

Thank you for joining us at the welcome celebration and welcome coffee this week! It was great to see so many familiar faces and meet lots of new families. We are looking forward to a great year working together with all of you!

Pancake Breakfast Update

We are sad to say we will be unable to host our annual pancake breakfast at this time due to the current circumstances. We will reevaluate as things progress through the year to see if we can reschedule the event. We hope we will be able to host this fun event for all our GMS families at a later date.

Volunteers Needed

  • Fun Fair Chair: Our largest annual fundraising event featuring games, food concessions, raffles – including classroom basket raffles. Provides an entertaining evening for students and their families. Many volunteers are needed to help with food, decorations, donations, games, raffles and more.
  • Winter Wonderland Chair: Winter Wonderland is a fun opportunity for children to secretly shop for their family and friends for the holidays. Children will shop with a 5th-grade “elf” assigned to them. Gifts range anywhere from $1-$10 and are offered in the following categories: young kids, brothers, sisters, moms, dads, grandparents, teachers, pets, and stocking stuffers.
  • Auction/Raffle Chair: The auction/raffle chair is responsible for securing donations and items from local businesses and sporting associations to create themed raffle baskets for Fun Fair. Typically the chair hosts a basket assembly night where basket elements are put together. The sky’s the limit on donation options.

Walkathon

It’s a Walk-a-Thon year, and here are some important dates to know! These forms will come home the first week of school, but we wanted to give everyone a heads up on the Corporate Sponsor date, it’s early this year! We had to do this in order to give the t-shirt company enough time to get the Platinum Sponsor logos arranged on the back of our shirts! If you know a local company that would like to be a sponsor, email us at walkathon@gmspto.org and we can send you a form now!

(*Platinum sponsors are donors of $300 or more, gold sponsors are $150-299 – sponsors at all levels are much appreciated!)

  • August 30 – corporate donation forms due in office.
  • September 2 – t-shirt order forms are due.
  • September 24 – sponsor sheets and money due.
  • October 1 – Walk-a-Thon.
